Multi-Split Air Conditioning Installation

A multi-split system connects several indoor units to a single outdoor condenser. Instead of cluttering your exterior walls with multiple boxes, you get one larger outdoor unit feeding two, three, four, or even five rooms. Each indoor unit has its own remote and thermostat, so the kids' bedroom can be set to 20°C while the home office runs at 22°C.

Multi-splits suit larger homes, open-plan extensions, and light commercial premises like salons, offices, and ground-floor retail units. They are particularly popular in Birmingham Victorian terraces where outdoor space is limited and planning sensitivity around the rear elevation matters.

Pricing starts from £2,800 for a two-room system including two wall-mounted indoor units, one outdoor condenser, pipework, electrical work, and commissioning. Each additional indoor unit typically adds £800–£1,200 depending on unit type and pipe run length. Ceiling cassettes and concealed ducted units cost more than standard wall mounts.

Installation usually takes one to two days. Day one covers outdoor unit mounting, main pipework runs, and the first indoor units. Day two finishes remaining rooms, pressure testing, vacuuming the lines, and commissioning. We coordinate access through the property to minimise disruption.

Pipe run limits vary by manufacturer — typically 25–50 metres total pipe length across all branches. We map the route during the survey and confirm the chosen system can handle your layout. Longer runs or multiple floor levels may require a larger capacity outdoor unit.

F-Gas certification is mandatory for multi-split work. The refrigerant charge on a four-room system is significantly higher than a single split, and proper commissioning — including leak testing and vacuum procedures — is essential for efficiency and warranty compliance. We handle all of this and provide full documentation.
